Western Digital's new USB-C G-Drive can charge your laptop
There are already a few USB-C hard drives on the market that use those sweet USB Power Delivery pipes to power the drive, forgoing the power adapter typically necessary for larger hard drives. But what if the roles were reversed? You didn't think of that, did you?
Western Digital just announced a USB-C G-Drive, dubbed "G-Drive USB-C" (via Mac Rumors) which is capable of providing up to 45 watts of charge over USB-C. Typically when I dream of my perfect USB-C desk setup, it involves a 5K monitor that's scared of Wi-Fi routersand can act as a hub maybe. But Western Digital wants me to focus on what's important: 4, 8, or 10TB of my favorite files.

If you still haven’t embraced the USB-C revolution, G-Drive USB-C also comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable in the box, and works over a Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.0, or USB 2.0 interface.
The drives start at $199.95 for the 4TB version and should be available this quarter.
